2nd time seeing kogoro actually do well in a case

i mean, its not like he doesn't have the potential to be a better detective closer to conans level. the issues are that he's too much of an alcoholic pleasure-seeker with a carefree personality and rides on the first hunch without trying to find faults in his first hunches until their pointed out to him.
he doesn't fully think things through and is too caught up on his more preset notions, arrogance and lust.
same thing goes with ran to a different extent. she has the same carefree nature as her father, but she isn't caught up in the laziness, hubris and drug use. but she still has more naivete which is why she doesn't perform well as a detective. well, that and she doesn't really try that much, tending to leave it to those around her. by the same right, this is one of the main reasons she nearly figured out that conan was shinichi as she naively over estimated agasa's capabilities as an inventor while seeing the similarities between conan and shinichi. at this point she most likely knows on some level that conan is the driving force behind "sleeping kogoro".

So originally Conan's goal was to train Mori to be a world class detective so not knocking him out and giving him experience every time should've been the focus. If more cases have him awake he would eventually get to where he needs to be. But we are also 800 cases into the anime as well lol.
